The Sabin Auction is our school’s biggest fundraiser. Each year the auction raises tens of thousands of dollars to support our teachers, offer our students extra help in reading and math, and fund programs that make Sabin special, like garden education and foreign languages. Past auctions have supported such worthy causes as establishing a restorative justice program, integrating more technology into our classrooms, and updating the north playground.
Here are some answers to common questions about the auction:
Q: What is the theme of this year’s auction?
A: The theme of this year's auction is Mad About Science.
Q: Do I have to dress up? I am not really a costume person...
A: Please wear whatever makes you comfortable, costumes and fancy attire are not required. If you’re in the mood to come in costume, here are a few ideas: dress up as a famous scientist, wear a lab coat, or get really creative and come as your favorite element from the periodic table. Whether you dress in costume, black tie, or blue jeans, just come enjoy the fun!
Q: Do I have to purchase anything at the auction?
A: Absolutely not! Along with being our biggest fundraiser of the year, the auction is also our biggest adult-only community event. There is no obligation to purchase or bid on anything.
Q: What types of items are available for bid?
A: There will be student artwork, restaurant gift cards, event tickets, baskets, sign-up parties, special outings, and more. We will update the website with a sneak peak of the items available.
Q: When and where is the auction?
A: Saturday, April 14 @ 6pm at Melody Ballroom (615 SE Alder Street).
Q: What can I expect to happen the night of the auction?
A: From 6pm to approximately 7:30pm, there will be a cocktail hour and silent auction. At 7:30pm, dinner will be served in the main ballroom. After dinner, the live auction begins. The live auction will have several classroom art projects with art that your child helped make, as well as other exciting packages. We'll wrap up the evening's festivities at 9:30pm.
Q: Do I have to reserve an entire table?
A: No, you do not have to reserve a table. You can purchase individual or couple tickets.
We will do our best to put you at a table with other parents in your grade.
Q: Do you have to be a parent to attend? I have friends and grandparents who want to get in on the fun!
A: Anyone who wants to support our school is welcome to purchase tickets! Invite your neighbors, friends, grandparents, and anyone who wants to support our school.
Q: Why are the tickets $65?
A: Tickets cover the cost of food, beverages, the auctioneer and renting the facility. The ticket cost does not raise money for the school.
Q: What happens with money raised at the auction?
